Immigration law states that anyone who comes in ILLEGALLY is to be DEPORTED! Anyone seeking asylum must do so in the CLOSEST country bordering their own unless they applied for asylum in every country in between and were denied. That means 95% of these people don't even qualify for asylum or due process&should be LEGALLY deported! It’s not “racial profiling”, we don’t care what color their skin is. It’s language and culture profiling. If you obviously struggle with English and clearly dress and have mannerisms that are not American, be ready to have a quick chat with ICE. If you’re here legally and are respectful of authorities then you should be able to prove it as you are supposed to carry documents with you at all times per DHS.

The word home is doing a lot of work in this article, and that matters. Home can mean the place where you currently live, but it can also mean the country you are from. Saying people are staying home because they fear deportation is accurate in one sense if it means they are avoiding public places. But in another sense it is inaccurate or at least incomplete. If someone is truly afraid of deportation, staying home can just as easily mean returning to or remaining in their home country. The article assumes only one definition of home and builds a narrative around it. That choice shapes the conclusion more than the facts themselves.
