its because you're using smooth rocks. in my culture we heat up rocks but we use porous rocks which is just rocks that have pours that usually means there's a way for the heat too vent out so the rocks don't explode. we do it often. its called an Imu you can also use volcanic rocks because volcanic rocks can retain heat without blowing up
