NEVER wait for it to get that deep before you leave. You will have more time to grab some things, get any disabled or elderly people to come with you. and get away. If you wait too long, there won't be room in your canoe for pets. The debris is on it's way fast. In the small town I'm from, people have canoes and/or auto inflate rafts on the porch. The big water comes fast there. They keep an ax and a saw in the attic. They know how to live in a flood zone.
