When you are crossing the border, it's normal for them to ask you for your passport and if you are a citizen. If you have ever traveled, this is a no brainer. This is not the same as ICE thugs going through neighborhoods dragging people out of homes and cars.
There are border patrol stations all over the states by the border. More than 50 miles from the border are blockade check points on highways. The 5th amendment gives us the right to not answer questions
