I had this happen to me when I was standing in chest deep water, but when it popped up, it was a monk seal. He barked in my face and swam away. They are quite large. Pretty scary!
Years ago, I use to swim with Dolphins in the Bahamas. Very playful and never ever have to worry about Sharks. They won't come near any Dolphins.💕

it's really important to teach children the difference between a fin and a fluke. There was no worry at all because there was no tail fin showing.

So happy to see the kids held still for the dolphin/s would so they could sense and know these kids were no danger to the pod as the pod was no danger to the children. I have been blessed and very lucky to swim with Bottle Nosed Dolphins in Hawaii and somewhere when a friend and I went on a 7 day cruise to Belieze and if you had the money, there were a few slots left to book an excursion to go out in the Gulf, looking for pods of Dolphins and the hosts told us this was normally a great area to find them. Within 20 minutes, we could hear them chattering and I was so excited. I honestly don't recall where at exactly we were in Belieze, I was soooooooo happy. If I could I would live on the oceans with them. Hope this makes sense. Riding up to Denver trying to comment 🥰🥰🥰

I'm sure at the time, they didn't know it was a dolphin and that had to be pretty darn scary. But fortunately, dolphins are very playful and had the kids engaged, it would have been a wonderful experience for them.
