I learned about this man in 4 th grade in 1987 back when they use to actually teach real shit in school
God has shown black folks favor and there’s no stopping us no matter who is in power and all of the racism all around we will always prevail there is no stopping us… this country has grown off of our knowledge and backs due to our god ensuring our favor which this country has benefited from tremendously… you can take us out of history black and white but our accolades will not be diminished…

That's the problem nowadays they don't teach you anything about anything in school today I remember learning about Booker T Washington Frederick Douglas George Washington Carver and many other black men and women who did a lot for this great country, this is one reason we don't need a black history month just need schools to start teaching and government officials to stop trying to decide us.

I was a skinny white girl in the early 70’s. We had to do a book report. I chose George Washington Carver. What I learned about this amazing man all these years!
History was one of my favorite subjects in school. It's beautiful when history is taught with truth and facts.
I learned about this brilliant man during the '60's. His accomplishments were amazing. Who would have thought the lowly peanut could and would be used for hundreds of uses!! He was one of the several men who led me into the Science Field for 45 years!! I am thankful to have been seeded with Science

I'm a graduate of the school he helped build. A school built by the way because of the racism in the South forced them to seek alternatives for surviving. The terrible things done to this man and other black people in the south were committed by people who said they were Christian and who read from the same Bible he read. To this very day, these so-called Christians continue to do the same stuff they've always done. Yet for some strange reason that history gets glossed over. Now, they make policy to change history instead of learning from it.

Then again, I shouldn't be surprised, because even the devil can quote scriptures.
I'm so happy to read the comments about you all learning about this man. I learned about George Washington Carver in the 4th grade. Received a blue ribbon in the History Fair at my school. Mr. Carver was my subject.

Unfortunately, the history of forced sterilizations in the US extends far beyond Native women. In 1973, African American sisters Minnie and Mary Relf, 12 and 14 years old at the time, were secretly sterilized by a federally funded clinic under the premise of giving the girls birth-control shots. Mexicans and their US-born descendants were described as “immigrants of an undesirable type,” and thousands of women were forcibly sterilized in California institutions from 1920 to 1950. The US is responsible for tens of thousands of state-sponsored non-consensual sterilization procedures, all done to control populations of people deemed inferior. For the Indigenous victims, their lifelong pain is compounded by the fact that IHS has never issued an apology.
