Construction sites usually operate with heavy machines moving slowly and deliberately under the control of experienced operators, but when the ground beneath a massive excavator suddenly gives way the entire machine begins sliding downhill with a force that the operator cannot stop, workers nearby scatter while the excavator’s tracks spin uselessly against the mud as it drifts toward the road and crashes through the safety barrier before grinding to a stop just short of the traffic lanes, the sc
