I’m only saying this because I’ve seen others do it. Not smart mind you, using ice around the filet neck to keep the hot water from spraying out. Cooling it down. Didn’t say it works. Motor doesn’t sound horribly hot so cracking the block or the heads or blowing a head gasket is probably not a concern. Using water in the winter time not advisable cause it pops the freeze plugs. Can crack the head as well. Ever a little antifreeze would help the situation.

Don't you know hot water freezes faster than cold water!/? Plus, you use antifreeze in your radiator in the winter time!

you never run straight water in an engine you have to only use the manufacturer recommendation of coolant/Antifreeze because water will eventually boil away or evaporate in summer or Freeze in winter and using the wrong type of Coolant/Antifreeze will cause your engine to fail prematurely Always go with what's in the owners manual you know that little book in the glove box nobody cares to read or if they have they think they or their shade tree mechanic knows more than the engineer's that built and designed that engine and vehicle
