She stalls him by asking him to check the microwave so she can get her boyfriend out the window, so the smart husband goes outside to call 911 so they can’t hear. Then he goes back in and kills the boyfriend and her. It says he came home and found an intruder attacking his wife and so he killed the intruder. Case closed.

If 911 was on the microwave originally nobody would see that as time counted down unless door was left open. Probably a code for help or it’s on fire.
