There was no loss. That was the dying remains of corn stalks. They don't yellow that way until way after harvest of the corn. Corn stalks are left in fields primarily to prevent soil erosion, retain moisture, and return essential nutrients to the ground as they decompose. This organic residue protects the soil from harsh winter winds and rain, acts as a natural snow fence, and can be used for livestock grazing or bedding.
