Unfortunately that’s not how it works. It’s actually better not to pay of your home totally. I‘m a senior on a fixed income. I paid my property taxes in December. It always hurts to send that check. I start saving every year in January so I have the money for property taxes in December. It’s difficult, but it’s the law. I would be in favor of not paying property taxes for senior‘s. Property taxes go to schools, community college, fire departments, libraries, etc. Why do seniors have to pay for other people kids to go to school or college? We have raised our kids and also payed taxes during that time. It’s a ripoff! We can barely get by and depend on social security (which isn’t enough to live on). I have a small pension and savings. So I’m a little better than a lot of older people. The upkeep is also important and costly. I feel for you. But you’re still young and have time to start saving. If it’s hard now, it gets harder when you reach retirement age.
