CALCIUM CARBIDE When exposed to water is highly reactive. Upon contact with water it produces a highly flameable 🔥/ explosive gas. Years ago when I was a youngster we would place it in a metal watering can and after dropping one or 2 carbide pellets into the mostly empty watering can we would I night it. it gave off a flame not unlike aceteline gas only not as sooty. For years it was used in the lights miners used to light their way in certain mines. Later on batteries took over because they are safer and easier to use.
