I worked with a guy that was in the navy back in the late sixties early seventies. He was in the Pacific Ocean and was caught in a storm with waves so bad the destroyer he was on was literally coming out of the water at times. He had a picture of his ship that over half of his ship was clear of the water when they crest the tops of the waves.

I am a Marine Veteran 2nd Battalion 7th Marines 80-83 and I too was on the USS PELIALU WE hit a December storm coming back from Alaska 2 days of that wave action not fun at all. Also I was working on a 150 ft tug boat on Lake Michigan got caught in a storm on that lake in late November and that night I thought I was going to die the experience was worse then being on a navel ship on the ocean tossed around like a bobber in a raging river
