I watched the movie , read the book and yes his mother was a drug addict down in Kentucky. He was raised by his grandmother. He knew what drugs did to his family. As soon as he was old enough he moved up to Ohio., finished his schooling. Went into the Army, then to college so he can have a better life. His mother got the help she needed to quit drugs. J.D met his lovely wife while in college. She wanting a better life went on to college and got her degree. She obtained her citizenship. They got married and have three children, fourth on the way. He was elected in Ohio , now he is the vice president of the United States.
