Plugging a water jacket in a small engine—typically using freeze plugs or core plugs—is done to seal casting holes used during manufacturing, prevent coolant leaks, and protect the block from cracking by providing an expansion point if coolant freezes. These plugs maintain the integrity of the cooling system.

You warped and scratched the mating surface of the head so you no longer have compression, and you're trying to tin-weld some metal into the scratches before having it machined?

I've been working on card for over 40 years and never seen that done . I've never worked in a machine shop maybe that's where this is at but don't know why they would do that .
