Nothing good comes out of a moose giving to the big, open, side eye.
Bull moose have been known to kill grizzlies. That alone should be enough knowledge to dictate how to act if you encounter one.
hunting in bush AK I'd fallen asleep .Woke up with two calves and mom standing 4' looking at me. I stopped breathing averted my eyes and seconds turned into very long minutes. I'm 80 and the memories are clear as bell.

I was hiking in Grand Teton when my husband walked up on a baby moose. I told him not to get too close He did anyway. Mother came running! Chased him 1/2 mile down the trail! He had to climb onto a huge Boulder! She completely ignored me! That was the funniest karma ever! She circled that Boulder about 20 minutes! I just went on down the trail!

I woke up to one of these about 10 feet from my tent in Maine. I was hiking the 100 mile wilderness on the Appalachian Trail. They use the Trail because its like an Interstate Hwy if you have a rack like that. He was apparently just curious. Left after a few minutes
He will run right over you. He looks to weigh about 1000 to 1200 pounds. Don't ever get that close unless you are armed with something other than a camera.
