If only it were legal to do this, the world would be a better place to live in. As it is, the laws are so lax that there's really no deterrent to keep someone from shoplifting, breaking into cars, robbing and purse snatching, and even breaking and entering in society anymore. I live in a liberal city in a liberal state (Springfield, IL). We have a high crime with perpetual recidivism rates because to get locked up for any real time in Illinois, you'd have to make it a career choice to daily crime before the justice system to finally do something about it. Most walk with simple fines, probation, or a couple of days or week jail time and right back to their thieving ways, knowing it could be several months before their 1st court date to plead guilty or innocent and much longer for trial. Most are plea bargained instead of trial, and by then, they have a dozen more cases they bundle together and receive couple weeks sentenc.
