See, Americans go to other countries and respect the locals, we don't want to offend them...foreigners come here and demand we change our values for them!

Isn't it amazing how Americans and others can go to other Countries and SHOW RESPECT for that Country BUT when people come to America they DISRESPECT it and TRY to convert it into something else ????

Funny how Americans are all so willing to assimilate for other countries but protest American values at home.

They know Americans don’t view tattoos the same way. Ive travelled there with my tattoos exposed and had absolutely no problem issue. They in fact were very friendly and a couple even asked about my tattoos. 👍🏼

I'm pretty sure these rules were created to exclude "Yakuza" members from public spaces.

Ok for the guys who said they had tattoos, and they were fine, is it just OK for the men and not the women? Is that the issue here?”because somebody said hookers have tattoos there,”I don’t know. “I’m just wondering for a friend, lol, just kidding. I thought that was funny,I have no tattoos.

its not as bad as people make it out to be, you can do private baths, some nonsense are tattoo friendly while some have private springs. Shrines and temples yes you need to cover them.

You generally don't have to cover tattoos in Japan for everyday city life, especially in tourist areas where acceptance for foreign visitors is growing, but it's highly recommended or required at specific traditional spots like onsen (hot springs), Sento (Public Baths), Traditional Inns (Ryokans), Conservative Workplaces, public pools, gyms, and sometimes temples/shrines, due to historical associations with the Yakuza (Japanese mafia) and lingering cultural stigma. For workplaces and traditional settings, covering them with long sleeves or patches is often expected. Big Cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto): Young people and tourists display tattoos; people often don't notice or care. Shops, Restaurants, Trains: Generally fine, though it's polite to cover in very traditional establishments.
