I always clear the dishes and stack them in a neat pile so it can be grabbed easily and quickly. I've never been a waitress, but it just seems like it would make it much easier for them. Am I missing something because I surely don't want to make things more difficult for them. 🤔
but why
it's the Virgo in me I always stack them.
As a former server please ignore this video. It’s honestly one of the kindest things to do especially on a busy night. Not required or expected of the customer but very much appreciated. Thank you.
nope imma keep doing it bc I say it shows appreciation for the service
I have been in the restaurant service industry for over 25 years from bartender, server, manager, GM. It depends on the restaurant. I always help clean and clear when I am a customer because it does help out. UNLESS you are dining at a fine dining/luxury establishment, by this I mean a Michelin Star or Relais and Chateaux caliber. You do not remove or scrape plates there. it is part of the fine dining experience and considered insulting to the restaurant. I've worked at both types of restaurants. 💕
no my grandma taught me better
I do it everytime I go to a restaurant.... 😆
I actually asked a few waitresses I know about this because I didn't wanna be rude if it was true....they actually appreciate when everything is piled nicely together, makes it easier on them 😁
Wrong, you help people out.
the only thing I dont like is dumping all the. drinks into one cup and adding the silverware in there it makes a mess
I'm gonna keep doing it because it's a nice thing to do and makes the servers job easier
In Europe they always clean off the dishes and stack them for the waitress. Clean up the table. 🤔
the only thing wrong is that she didn't ask for a doggie bag so as not to waste food.
Why do people need to change people who are just being convenient. Whom ever made this video obviously has never felt like an inconvenience or cared about anyone else’s feelings. Do better. Continue to do what makes you happy. 💕
I do what she did in the beginning. I put leftover in one dish then stack. Trying to make easier for the waitress.
I am a former waitress and I clear things so that the waitstaff has an easier time rather than trying to balance everything. Not only plates and bowls but utensils, napkins, etc.
I always stack plates and flatware, use napkins to wipe up condensation from drinks and crumbs. Both of my daughter's were servers in their 20s, but I did it before that. I always thought it showed appreciation. Don't know why they're saying not to to that in this video.
Hell no! She's obviously never been a server a day in her life. We ALWAYS HELP those serving us.
I was a waitress most of my younger life. I got into the habit of stacking plates for the wait staff. Later in life I was having dinner at Pebble Beach Country Club w friends. I knew better to not stack the plates @ this place.
as a waitress it's always nice when people help clean up and stake the dishes the only thing I could see is that she put the plate of red sauce in the middle and it gets to the bottom of the other dish and spreads a mess and the waitress stacked them so that doesn't happen but even really doesn't matter. I know every restaurant is different, I worked at one where all the dishes went into bucket bind and the dishwasher came to get them I also worked at restaurant where we took them to the back scrapped and separated them and mess spreads no matter what. kindness is kindness and I think some rich places might take it wrong depending but in my personal opinion kindness is kindness. I appreciate it when people are thoughtful and kind to me and I always try to do the same
As a former waitress, please do the first scenario, it makes it way easier to carry back. I always clear and stack plates, from my experience working in restaurants.
I have always cleared my mess when done at a restaurant and stacked the plates, I'm a former waitress and I loved when people did it it would help so much when we would get busy
What a waste of food, I’d finish my food and stack my dishes, or request a to go container and then stack my dishes. I understand this may not be the proper etiquette for upper scale restaurants with a formal setting though, so I may not do it there but I don’t even eat out so 🤷♀️. 😆
You can always tell who was raised with respect
It's all going into the same trash so why does it matter if they are scraped together?
NO NEVER
I often do this as well.
My family always piles the dishes up if the server did a good job to make their life a lot easier. Myself, my husband and our partner have all been servers so we know how hard it is to be a server so we try and make the servers life a little bit easier but they also have to show us that they want us to help them as well.
Waited tables for over 30 years. Loved when things were stacked. Also when people tried to clean the mess from their kids. 🥰
I always clear the dishes and then pile it up. The one left with food is on the top. So that's wrong? Crazy
It's a stupid video! Always make it easier for the waitress if you clean up
I don't know wwhy they say this. We stack and clean up after ourselves as much as possible. The busboys and servers always appreciate it and are very verbal about it.
I bussed tables where we went to dinner tonight. it's a really small mom and pop diner and it was slammed with only 1 waitress. so we bussed the table sit down , then after eating bussed it again as we were leaving because there were no tables yet people waiting in line. we also tipped well. it wasn't her fault everybody in town decided to go to dinner at the same time.
I also make it easier for the maid when traveling...I make my bed put all the towels in 1 spot and the garbage is in the trash...I've always cleaned up after myself and others. its ingrained in me I guess...
please keep doing this. I bartended/waitressed for 11 years. this is not a problem or disrespectful, or whatever the hell they are trying to say here
Unless there's an explanation not to then I'm going jeep doing it and leaving a nice tip of service is great!
why not?
my grandma would clean the whole table for them. Stack the dishes. Get the crumbs up. Put all the silverware on one plate. Drove my parents nuts. 😆
Some\nOf these people commenting that you shouldn't do pick up after yourself just need to get over themselves. They sound like they're too high class to clean up and help out talk about privileged people
I always stack our dishes and clear a bit around the table. I think this is courtesy, why be slob and leave a mess for someone else to clean YOUR mess.
don't listen to this video yes please do this help the people they're working the least we can do is put her place together for them
This reads like a post from someone who didn't work in the "service industry" to pay the bills...
so let me get this straight Y'all are making her seem bad because she was taught to clean up after herself I bet you that y'all will go in these restaurants and y'all make messes y'all leave food everywhere y'all put crap underneath the table have food all up in your seats and then y'all expect somebody to walk by and clean it up That's what you call trash at least she was respectful enough to clean up after herself
I do this also, I'll even make a Hotel Bed.
lmao why her eyes so far apart 😂 looking like a female version of sid
Oh wow! I've learned something today, never to old to be educated🤔👍
The only thing I see wrong…she didn’t have them balanced out…they all say they appreciate it when we do it…we’ve even tipped our bus boy…especially when he’s covered up…Keep Praying ✌🏼
My husband always stacks the dishes at a restaurant
