This s the devils slide in Utah, caused by erosion in a layer of sedimentary rock which has been tilted near vertical. It's next to the highway running from Ogden to Echo at I 80

I have heard these referred to as a volcanic Dyke. it's an upwelling of lava that's been tilted, if I remember right.
