So if you are ever in a kayak and it flips over, the first thing to do.. For safety and stuff, is to remove your helmet and do a trick with it, and then right yourself? This seems like a great skill that will come in handy for white water rapids.

The big difference, this is a CONTROLLED environment. The real test is to do a rollover in a raging rapid.

In real rapids, my little cousin was in a canoe or something with others, when they flipped, they couldn't find him, but finally did. He was breathing the air in the upside down ice chest, so he couldn't be seen, but was also holding on to it, because it floated. o would guess it might male a good helmet, too.

traps air in the helmet and helps with rolling back over?

Why??? I mean is he going rapids now!!?!?! Is he going to a deep lake now??? He would be scared shitless if it was dark waters and why take off the helmet. If it truly fell off it would not be right by him……… Hood job kid. Sorry you can’t play normal in a pool.

Young ones like this have surfed most of their young lives here in the islands. They develop very healthy, efficient lung power. Long paddle outs to catch waves, falling off and having to stay under to avoid incoming crushing waves until resurfacing. Not for the faint of heart spectating, plus it's the only sport that involves possibly being ingested by sharks .πŸ™

When I started kayaking in 1975, I was in second grade. This maneuver was the first thing I was taught. My Dad was very serious about handling emergencies and recovering from unusual body attitudes that we can end up in. Learning the kayak roll aka Eskimo roll and staying efficient will save your life!!!

It’s not expected to be so great when the River current pushes his head on and off the rocks. If he flips, it most likely won’t offer him the chance to use his skill. πŸ™πŸΌ

WπŸ’™W, years ago I worked on a drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, had to go through 2 weeks training. water survival took 1 week, and had to do this in a helicopter simulator. I must say it was pretty scary ! had to unbuckle seat belt etc to get out. what an experience it was . among other things, we had the best pro instructor right there with us every second!! I would love to share the entire experience but its alot. Great job young man β£οΈπŸ€πŸ’™πŸ‡±πŸ‡·
