I don’t see how using the smaller rope helps the rope from breaking and what they do for safety. They didn’t say that.

Mooring lines do not make a ship stop faster. The ship should be barely moving when the shot line is "Thrown" to the line handlers. Yes if the tension is so great that the line parts. It can kill you. USN/Ret.

We did this often,we called them line handling parties. The ships were at full stop,no danger,most of this is crap.

They use heaving lines that they can pull up to put on the cleats
