This is not actually a disaster. Sulfuric acid occurs in nature, and in large quantities. Hawaii produces thousands of metric tons of sulfuric acid a day as a result of it's volcanic eruptions. By now the acid is gone and the worst you will find is a slightly elevated pH.

On December 27, 2025, a walkway collapse at the BWC Terminals facility in Channelview, TX, ruptured a pipeline, releasing approximately 1 million gallons of sulfuric acid. While much was contained, some acid entered the Houston Ship Channel. Two people were hospitalized for respiratory issues, and 44 others were treated and released, though officials confirmed no immediate danger to the public.
