Some cats do not like to be laid on their back. I always pick them up and put my hand under their back feet and gently hold them against my body with my other hand. With a new cat you have to try different things until you find what they are comfortable with. Kittens are pretty happy no matter. Just don't let their legs dangle.
I've seen/had cats who, if you held them like that or tried to rub/scratch their tummy, would claw your face off. Cats are like people- they're all different.
my cat is a nip addict and cuts me on my arms, hands and ankles and i carry his food into the house and i carry his crap out of the house and everybody laughs when i say i'm abused. if i treated someone like my cat treats me, i'd be in jail.

1st one: Bad. It's not good to hold a cat like that, hence why they demonstrated on a kitten. Kittens naturally go limp as this is how they'd naturally be carried when young, they also weigh less. Adult cats typically weigh more and are much more likely to fight back if held this way, which could cause serious damage to them. . 2nd one: Fine. Two hands are used to support the cat. The cat is also being held close to the body, giving extra support. . 3rd one: Bad. Only one hand is used to support the whole weight of the cat. Cat is also not being given extra support by being held close, it's essentially hovering with a single hand only giving support. . See reply for last one, said i couldn't post all in single comment.

Some cats do not like to be held upside down. I hold my cat with one hand under her stomach and one hand under her tail section. She's not off balance and feels safe and can jump if necessitated.

Finally a video that shows the proper way to hold a cat and how not to hold or pick up a cat! A mother cat picking up it's kitten by the scruff of the neck is one thing, but to do that with an older cat is painful. Since they can't fight back no one thinks it's harmful. When you pick up a cat under the front legs it can cause tendon and muscle damage even though they may want you to, you shouldn't! Picking a cat up under its belly is not at all good for the stomach muscles and forces all their weight on the front and back of their bodies. Either do it the way she demonstrated or support their body by placing a hand under its bottom and legs! I've been trying to tell people this for years. I know no one wants to hurt their furry babies! God bless everyone and your furry babies! ♥️😻😽😺♥️

We humans are a lot taller than a mama cat & they usually stop carrying them not long after they are weaned. We humans also have 2 🤲 and arms when we walk upright. So just like a puppy, we gotta support their front & BACK END! That way they feel secure and ARE SECURE. This is best as is lessens the chance of them freaking out and Jumping or falling that 4-5 feet to the ground. Be safe with those fur babies out there folks!!! They love us!!!🥰💕
I am in my mid 70's and have been a cat mom since I was about 7. Never been without cats and I pick them all up in every way possible and it does not hurt them one bit. So this young lady isn't honest about how to hold a cat. Some of my cats don't like to be held, but like laying on me. Some of my cats don't like to be held on their back, either. Every cat is different, like people. Every cat has their own personality, too. Being a cat lover I know how a cat responds to affection.😻
