I saw someone try that at night and lost. the train was moving slow, grabbed and drug the car, spinning it around and chewing the car metal to shreds. The car went around 1½ times and then drove away. I did not tell the responding police the license plate number because the guy would already be in a ton of trouble from his wife.
Their insurance will have to pay for the repairing paint on the locomotive's front bumper when they get hit.. .
There's only one track and they can see the engine just sitting there.

the train is too close to the crossing it set off the cherries and the gates. if he backs like 30' it would be fine
Be very careful if there is more then one RR tracks. A very slow train was taking a long time getting to the intersection. A couple went around the guard rail. They did not see the fast because the slow train block the view, than it was to late. The couple died instantly. This is a single track. I have to say that I would be doing the same as these vehicles are doing.
That happens a lot where I live the arms go down for several blocks without a train in sights.
If a train comes from the other direction on a second set of tracks. They can can kiss their ass good bye. That’s why the train gates are there.
