I remember this episode when I was a kid Aunt Susie and I always did the twist with Mommy it was the Jitterbug and Polkas
The Twist had some variations to the basic dance, but in general dances presented in film or TV were never the way people were really dancing. examples: Ann-Margaret in Viva Las Vegas, prom dance in She's All That, any of the beach dances in Avalon/Funicello movies. Dirty Dancing probably came closest, but nobody was doing that lift.
