That's for reference. So if it goes bad or something happens, they know they were the last one who touched it. So, if you go somewhere else and that mark is smudged, they know you're lying. You're welcome. 👍

the marks are to tell a mechanic if somebody's been there before, and messing around with things!

Why not just use a sharpie. Finer point, better line and cleans off with denatured alcohol.

using dye marker on a drain plug on cars I worked on saved my ass at vehicle service center when a customer tried to scam us by saying we didnt add oil during a oil change that they wanted a new engine. engine was inspected on a lift and my dye marker was broken. the company declined any repairs and told the customer to pound sand.

been doing this for years, after you torque the bolts. indicates you torqued the bolt to spec, and if anyone after you messed with it!

They are called inspection marks. Gm has been using them since atleast the 50's. I restore old corvettes for a living, mostly C1's. My 2024 Silverado has the same marks, same colors, in same places as a 58' corvette. There are more marks now, a few more colors, in places the truck has the car doesn't.

Just paint lines to make it look like they torqued it.

After turning teeth on grinders at work I would mark the bolts so I knew which ones I already torque to ensure all of the teeth secure before using grinder to prevent ruining a 5,000 dollar piece of aluminum

yep making sure nobody messes with your work behind you and when they do you know... always follow up with a photograph so that you can authenticate your marks.
