That's for reference. So if it goes bad or something happens, they know they were the last one who touched it. So, if you go somewhere else and that mark is smudged, they know you're lying. You're welcome. 👍
Is this a joke???
its to show if its been tampered with
My name is Mark…
Why the marks on top of the valve springs??
2171 in the Marine Corps. We kept nail polish in our toolbox for the same reason
There is already a timing mark on the gear
I was an airplane mechanic for 12 yrs..After we ran out of the paint pen I just started using fingernail polish.
WTF is a valve spring retainer?
the marks are to tell a mechanic if somebody's been there before, and messing around with things!
The dipstick mark??? The creator is a dip.
Why not just use a sharpie. Finer point, better line and cleans off with denatured alcohol.
using dye marker on a drain plug on cars I worked on saved my ass at vehicle service center when a customer tried to scam us by saying we didnt add oil during a oil change that they wanted a new engine. engine was inspected on a lift and my dye marker was broken. the company declined any repairs and told the customer to pound sand.
if you think its a timing mark, then give up mechanics!
you like nail polish alot,hahaha
slip marks
mechanics aren't the only people that use witness marks
marking timing
It Works
Pipefitters know this too
what, how to apply finger nail polish to metal? riiigghhhttt....
been doing this for years, after you torque the bolts. indicates you torqued the bolt to spec, and if anyone after you messed with it!
Impact Wrench ...
when you are out of loc tite fingernail polish works as well too.
it's also a good way to see if someone is messing with your car first tape then glue
I have used puffy paint as my quality control checklist
So you are a mechanic, morgan?
They are called inspection marks. Gm has been using them since atleast the 50's. I restore old corvettes for a living, mostly C1's. My 2024 Silverado has the same marks, same colors, in same places as a 58' corvette. There are more marks now, a few more colors, in places the truck has the car doesn't.
Just paint lines to make it look like they torqued it.
not seeing a corresponding timing mark on the other gear . why would you mark it here?
good teachings... this can also be used in hidden places to see if the mechanical is actually doing what they say...
seen it done and adopted the process as well
setting the timing chain
Only a mechanic knows? That's a ridiculous statement.
matchmarking... for remembering the original position
After turning teeth on grinders at work I would mark the bolts so I knew which ones I already torque to ensure all of the teeth secure before using grinder to prevent ruining a 5,000 dollar piece of aluminum
I’m not a mechanic, and I know this. I’ve caught many lyin’, thievin’, mechanics this way, too.
I'm an electronic tech and repair my own car(s), and I knew this.
it looks like it's a tooth out of time now
What being annoying
I'll say dont know how to use Loctite 😆
timing off by one tooth...
Wow, I would just finish painting all of the part, looks si cute
Lies gun owners know it too...
yep making sure nobody messes with your work behind you and when they do you know... always follow up with a photograph so that you can authenticate your marks.
Trade schools would include this, among other learning tips.
is that a 212 predator engine from harbor freight😂😂😂
I do that to my own vehicles before taking them for service just to make sure the mechanics shop isn't shady
