Well, young lady, those are the people you voted in that are allowing this. You have to vote them out to have that law changed, because somebody has a big piece of that electric company, there's somebody getting their hands and their palms greased, and that's the only reason why it's happening that way other people should not have to pay other people's electric bill. Sometimes , if the state wants to pay fort fine , but you should not be paying for other people's electric bill , the only way they happens is , if the public officials have been paid off by the electric company , there should be a big investigation because if you didn't vote for it , somebody made it happen without your vote

I live on CA and pay the same thing - for electricity and for phone service. I'm not wealthy by CA standards but I'm still forced to pay for services for other people. Gotta love those tax happy Democrats!

Well, if you own your own home, I would put either a diesel generator, or a Tesla solar panel backup system, with a small diesel generator, and I would disengage from the public utility system. Problem solved.👍

Usually that "Public Benefit" is NOT passed on to paying customers but is a benefit given by Social Services and that electric company but it's a tax write off then some states the electric companies can ask you to volunteer to contribute to a welfare program if there is one then it's usually a very low charge, like a couple of dollars. Yes, there are people with health issues that can not work but worked most of their lives, and yes there are those that could work but don't have the right working conditions for them to work, and then you have the very few fakers out there who need to get to work! I worked most of my and it was usually 2 full-time jobs for 27 years because I was a workaholic but then came health issues that caught up to me, an autoimmune disease called scleroderma, that caused many serious health problems for me so there people who would love to work but the body is not willing, huge bummer!
