This is pretty standard procedure. I came home one night about 2:30 and waited for a car turning around at the bottom of my street. I watched him hit my sister's S-10, make panicked eye contact with me and flee the scene. I called it in with description of the car and all 3 occupants. Shorty after, the police called me back: "We pulled over a vehicle matching the description in Riverview Park. Can we have an officer swing by and grab you so you can identify them?" Sure thing. Come get me. The officer arrived and said, "Here's how we do this: I put you in the back of my squad, uncuffed, and show up on scene like you are my prisoner. I drive by real slow so you can get a good look and then I park 30' away so they're not looking at you." It was the right car. Cop congratulated me on giving such good descriptions of all 3. He said they never get details that good on suspects. Unlicensed driver, car got impounded, driver and one passenger went to jail and the girl called for a ride out.
