Take a trip to the vet, get it checked for a chip, no chip then start asking around in the neighborhood and if no one claims this dog then I would keep it. Letting it run free could cause harm to the dog and mom could show more passion. 🐕❤️

"They said it's nobody's dog." Who are "they"??? 🤔 Can't imagine being so mouthy to my mother. Also would've faced a long talk about much dogs cost to feed and pay Vet bills and how my allowance didn't cover it... also would've been told I was the one who had to pick up its poop every day! 🤔 When I was older my parents did agree to get a dog. I didn't have to pay for his food or his Vet bills; however, I did have to pick up his poop in the yard every Saturday... as part of my weekly chores.
Apart from the issue of disrespecting her mother, she wants a dog but if Mom lets her keep it, Mom will end up taking care of it.

Take the dog to the shelter and see if he has been chipped, if not leave him there in case the owner comes looking for him. In the meantime have a stern conversation with your daughter about her attitude and nip that in the bud right away. If no one shows up for dog, consider adopting him otherwise do not give it another thought. I would make it clear to your daughter that bringing random animals home does not mean she is keeping them.
both were wrong in my book. the mother should have told her the dog is probably lost so we can't keep her, let's take her to the vet and see if she is chipped and put up signs to see if her owner claims her. if not we will talk about keeping her possibly
