Animals are smarter than we give them credit for. The owner should sit down and tell the dog very simply that Grandma went to Heaven. Then take the dog to her grave and tell him once again. If possible take an article of clothing to grave also and give the dog a chance to let him associate the grave, article, grandma and Heaven together. Give the dog a chance to process this. Walk away a few steps so the pressure is off. He will come to you when he is ready to leave Grandma there! Good luck! God bless the love between species!!

I have had dogs ever since I got rid of an abusive first husband 35 years ago! I love my 3 dogs and they love me. I’m an old woman now and it’s just the dogs and me although I have sons, grandkids, and great grandkids. Plus I have grafted in kids and grandkids and we love each other dearly. Now I worry about dying and leaving my dogs. My daughter-in-law loves animals and she has said she will take them and I know she and my son would be good to them but it still would be emotionally hard on them!!!
