For those not in the know. We had a similar coaster here in NJ called Kingda Ka, which was torn down in early 2024 for new projects. The style coasters sometimes feature a roll back, which gets you a bonus launch at a slightly higher speed. Those of us who enjoy these coasters pray for a roll back every time! Rode Kinga Ka hundreds of times over the 17 years is was standing, never once got that glorious roll back, but I've witnessed it happen on numerous occasions with pure envy

Years ago at the original Top Trill Dragster at Cedar Point, while standing in line, we saw it happen not once, but TWICE, with people strapped in. Both times, the sled made it over the "hump" the 2nd go round (the people couldn't get off; the operators just "shot" it off again). After the first time it happened, just about everyone in line was hoping it would happen on their turn. It made for an exciting afternoon! 😆

it is meant to do that. the top thrill dragster did it a lot, but they made the new one where it didn't do it to keep the line going

It is built with a hydraulic launch system and designed to take the speed record from Kingda Ka in NJ. As with most coasters of this design, Miss launches are not uncommon and part of the original design. It simply resets and launches you a little bit harder. Amazing coasters, but energy hogs. They last only until the records are broken and then they’re always dismantled.

lol a lot of people didn’t ride top thrill 1 and it’s showing. on the OG ride in ohio 1 in 5 rides came back down on the first run without making it over. the riders always loved it bc you got two rides. it’s what inspired top thrill 2’s entire design
