every now and then, I like to give them change but not the exact change and watch them figure it out ... example I owe $4.90 ...I give them $20.15 .. after reading some of these comments smdh 😆😆😆 I know it's petty
I just read, don’t remember where it was, but schools no longer have to pass math:science:English to graduate from high school, it was said that it is prejudice against black students, I don’t understand the reasoning here
Unfortunately younger people don’t learn how to count back change anymore. They count on the computer telling how much to give back. Another way of dumbing down the people. I teach them how to count back change and they pay attention and are grateful. It isn’t their fault, it’s the schools.

people are so used to seeing a register tell them how much change to give back to the customer they can't figure it out. I WAS A RETAIL MANAGER EVEN KIDS IN COLLEGE WERE STUCK WITH THIS PHENOMENA
The cashier should have been tested for math skills before they were hired. I tested everyone that needed to use math in the simple jobs that needed to be done. Over a years time, more than half tested failed very simple math and this was 30 years ago.

This isnt about a,scam or 3 dolkars.Irs about stupidity. I have had the same thing happen more than once.When the cashier gets handed the money like this the thought process immediately stops. Even though if she rang the register it would say correct change 2 dollars they still can't function.

I had that happen. I made sure to tell the mgr. this was his fault. He was hired to train and teach. The mgr. shocked me when he told me that no one gives the money back.

Or they can’t compute it on their own in their head so they just say “sorry I already hit the button so here you go” and hand you back the change. Apparently doing the math in their head is too difficult.
When I worked in fast food a long long time ago, we also had to figure sales tax in our head. 5% so it was easy!

that happened to me in coffee bean two girls couldn't figure out my change so I told them the right amount and they both giggled! I took my change and told them please stay in school and they were not that young!
