Downshift if in a suitable situation. I miss my 3 on the tree 79 Custom Deluxe C10 and my grandpa's 61 K30 Suburban that had granny low
down shifting is always better, makes your brakes last longer.

I drove a school bus, I'd down shift the initial braking, and brake from there, in winter with snow or ice covering the road I would put the bus in neutral or else the wheels would lock-up and skid, I do the same in my automatic daily driver in the wintery conditions
