min wage is a wage for no experience needed work. Teenagers work these jobs while going to school for pocket money. The house buying power in the 60-70 was a one paycheck though. Woman wanted liberation and equal pay, companies brought the men's pay down to match the woman's, not woman's up to match the men's. SO corporations now have a two for one sale. Throw in some illegals and bam! Hammer time!!

if prices for everything from the 20s and 50s could exsist today with the amount of money people make min wage we'd all be living just fine we would be able to afford cars gas food homes bills etc and Noone would be homeless or go hungry unless they chose to be but nooo our governments don't want that they want everyone to struggle while they chill at the spa ...but you know I'm honestly happy with what little we've got and that we are even able to work eat raise a family and live and I owe ...we owe that all to god..not our goverment

1 income of 60k or 2 of 30k is enough to live but not a lavish life style, but because we live in a bubble rap world we want to show and flash what we have to others and pretend that we rich but we even poor then imaginations can comprehend,we have to think that government's takes from 15% to 50% of our income if make more the that 60k so is not a problem with living cause, the problem is Government abuse and their lavish life style that put everything and everyone in this predicament that is everything gotten up is because of wage rising and the demand of it.

you do understand the difference between the homes they bought compared to the homes you want to buy...... most of them ground floor, 30 × 30... my garage is bigger than the original foundation of my house. which is about 30×30. then addition after addition it now fits todays needs and "standards" the materials, mostly American products done by American workers..... the money was made in the United States spent in the United States and stayed in the United States...... for the biggest part. workers would go to their favorite LOCAL diners, ect not these huge corporate places while bitching about billionaires on a platform.....🤨. nobody expected to stand around and pour some cups of coffee to make a livable wage either.....😂😂😂😂😂

Not saying its the only thing, but in the 1970s the average new home was about 1500sqft, in the 2020s its closer to 2400. Is anyone taking that into account when doing these calculations. House sizes went up 60% and were still trying to do apples to apples.

With inflation and everything else over the years that has happened the original $1.60 hr minimum wage of 1970 to today's dollars / buying power would only be $13.41 today .... math

that is wrong in 1970 minimum wage was $1.45 it Rose up to a $1.60 in 1971 now if you do the math the actual rate would be $13 to $15 so your minimum wage earners are about the same unless you're working in the restaurant industry in California then you're making over $20 an hour

We didn't work for minimum wage when we purchased a home. The comparison is laughable. Nobody works for minimum wage today.

No one bought a home in the 60s on minimum wage. You had to have a skill or worked you way up to a management position.

That is wrong it's more in the neighborhood of $28.00 to $33.00 an hour in order to equate buying a home, the bigger issue is home prices and interest rates are far worse today than back then because the dollar is worth far less because the Biden Administration allowed more money to be printed from 2021 to 2024 than any other time in US history which have devalued the dollar by almost 50% since 2020!

In 1970 minimum wage was $1.60 per hour. Work 40 hours a week and bring home around $3400 before taxes for the year.

$2.85 was my first job, finally got me a high paying job at $6.00 hrly, and I had a trailer on 2 acres, a motorcycle, and a car back in 1987. Mowing yards on the weekend and the sawmill during the work week. Then you could actually have a life, just being on time with work ethics. My 23 yr old son makes 48,000 a year and can barely afford rent on a 1 bedroom apartment. He also works a part-time job. The big difference, we weren't paying trillions to other countries for them to take our jobs and move and live here while we still pay for their free education, hotels, and vacation expenses! It will always take more effort when you aren't the one holding the carrots. At the same time, the majority of politicians went from modest American homes to mansions. 🤔

My Grandpa died in the 90s. I still have his check stubs where he worked for Roadway trucking and was a Union member. His average pay was around $3400 every two weeks. He made $6800 per month in 1974. I make the same amount as he did 50 years ago.

hello. every time you raise peoples base pay, the landlord, grocery stores, fuel all know you can pay more so they raise the prices. improve your skills to raise your individual pay and they cant raise the prices because only you make more.

and then in 1970 the jews created feminism and we doubled the labor pool in one day... pushing down wages not seen since the great depression.... then the USA spent too much money and took the US off the GOLD STANDARD IN 1971. All INFLATION IS CAUSED BY INCREASED SPENDING.... THE HIDDEN TAX THE GOVT USES TO TAX AND COLLECT... PRINTING MONEY.... US FED DEBT IN 2000 $5 TRILLION .... TODAY $38+ TRILLION... AND THE JEWS OWNS THE FEDERAL RESERVE PRIVATE WALL ST BANKS OWN IT. THEY OWN OUR MONEY 💰

Let's not forget that the average house size in the 70's was 1,500 square feet. The average today is 2,400. Additionally, it was not standard to have washing machines, central air conditioning, dishwashers, microwaves, whole house carpets, etc. So some of that inflation is related to increased lifestyle. Minimum wage is a joke and always has been.
