Tapping the helmet is a “challenge” call. It will be in effect this upcoming season. Every umpire has their own “zone” of balls and strikes. You would think it would be a simple job to do but it’s really not. Some of the pitchers these days, including myself, have so many different pitches that sometimes the umpire will assume the pitch will land in “their” zone but it will either move more than the previous pitch that was the same. The umpire can see if the batter is going to watch the pitch so he just makes the call judging mostly from the same pitch thrown previous and is anticipating it lands in the same zone. It is frustrating but they are human and some of them make horrible calls. And for all of you that say baseball is boring, I respect your opinion but obviously you have never played at all or at the highest level. It’s a tremendous amount of skill and athleticism. Try playing over 180 games a year, staying in shape, adjusting to all of the different time zones you deal with

I like the comment about the three blind mice being played that was funny. I seen a video one time where police been a walk up to somebody’s house and the neighbor played that police song what you’re gonna do when they come for you and the policeman start laughing.

How many female baseball umpires are they and has any ever been behind a plate in professional baseball?

Expressing displeasure/disagreement about a ump/referee call is against the rules in most , if not all, sports. It is indeed in the rule books. Don't hate me, but I ref 3 high school sports. 🤔

It’s an ESPN thing. Just like a no hitter is now called a NONO. Or a game winning home run is called a walk off. I watched a lot of baseball on TV as a kid and I never heard these terminology until ESPN started

You need great skills at every position. You need greater skill to even come close to being able to get a hit off of a pro. That said, the pace of the game can be really boring, even if you know all the things going on. They have made improvements and are close to getting the game to modern tastes. Still, compared to basketball and Football, it is an uphill climb.

That’s an easy one. Touch my left elbow, scratch my nose, step out of box and adjust my nuts, tap the plate twice on the corner.

I thought of all these years and years and years if you didn’t agree with the umpire, you just kicked dirt all over his cleats

Unless you really know the game behind the game or within the game that the players play against each other and the um tired and all the signals. I guess it could be boring but that's what in general makes the game of baseball interesting. It's like a game of chess.

We can get rid of the umps now. They're just a traditional part of the game. The only controversy that comes in now is when they get it wrong. They're not needed to call balls and strikes.

it's new, but I believe they're going to adopt it, probably because most of the officials in every major sporting event seem to be extremely poor at their jobs, and there needs to be some avenue for the players to be heard.

I’d rather watch a “Nana ball” game. Dudes doing flips,Hot woman all over and best no stepping out after every pitch scratching your nards, scratching the catchers nards and you know no umpires nards go without scratching. 😆😆
