That’s not gas. You use starter fluid (eather) it is risky but using gas would make the car, truck, tractor etc. It would blow it up and actually kill you

If I’m going to use that method for inflating a huge tire, then I’m going to take time to find a 30 foot long pole, wrap a cloth around the end of it, light cloth on fire, then stand back 30 feet away, preferably behind a brick wall, as I light the tire up.

You use starter fluid which is ether. Done correctly, by some one with experience - it is quite safe

In the olden days the rim was two pieces. Main rim and a ring that would seal the bead. If they don’t put tire in a cage while inflating they’d forget about it and over iflate blowing sealing ring through a masonry wall or through themselves. Machines are so much safer now.

I’ve used starting fluid on everything from lawn mower tires, tractor tires, skid steer tires, and semi tires. It usually works best if you can jack it up to take the load off the tire.

using gas to bead a tire is stupid. ether/starting fluid is much safer.

exciting way to mount a tire! a GI gave my class a demo of this method. From then on that's all they wanted to do. scared the hell out of me!

split rims are done in a cage I don't even think they use them anymore. I've only seen 1 or two at a scrap yard I worked at. I've seen a lot of rims.
