I never knew when a banana tree blooms to fruit that is it's last season. That tree will die that is why they cut it down when they cut the fruit off. That tree usually starts other baby trees from it's roots to continue the bananas continuous perpetuation.

I usually set my giant blue recycling can under the bananas, and then cut it. Drops maybe 6" to the can, and doesn't split the bottom row of bananas.

I have bananas growing in Tennessee. This is not an ideal climate for them. They are growing right off the back of the house. I have to cut them down when winter comes so they won't freeze out. I cover them up with rugs they have always come back. If you really want to see them do excellent get you some mushroom dirt and put it on them. They will grow bigger than they ever have.
