Please keep cats in carriers while driving. Years ago a friend was returning from a camp with a rescue cat. The cat got spooked and went under the pedals. She was unable to control the vehicle while merging on the hwy. She lost her life when she collided with a semi.

I had a cat who was a special part of my family for 17 years and she hated car rides I would never have thought of confining her to a pet carrier where she could hurt herself by ripping out her claws or worse she would ride in the back of the vehicle and would only come up to me in the passenger seat because I didn’t drive my husband did all the the driving but putting in a confined space space never!!
Unrestrained animals in the car are usually a hazard. But howling & miserable animals are too. Like all ppl, animals have different needs because they are sentient beings, too. And they are changed by life experiences. These cats may have been given a sedative for the drive but they clearly see him as a source of calm & warmth. He has been accepted as the one to test his patience with them because housecat fathers do not as a rule stick around.
