It is absolutely nobody’s business what goes on between the people that live in that house. The MIL is way out of bounds. The DIL is a grown woman. She needs tell the MIL to get out of her house, and not to wash her husband’s “whites.” She should emphasize that she was there when he took them off and MIL doesn’t need to worry about them. And the fact that MIL doesn’t care that DIL is sick says all we need to know about her character.

The son is an adult, he can make his own homemade meals. Whenever my mother was sick my dad did his best to feed us kids. He didn't expect her to be up making our meals.

This is why you teach your children how to cook do laundry and clean. Not to depend on anyone. My son learned at 12 but he married a woman that dotes on him, she is a stay at home mom husband and children come first all their boys know how to cook, laundry and clean.
