That toilet & or other pipe has been leaking for a while for it to have done that unless there was some freak weather storm I mean did u not hear or see anything bc there would’ve been signs but then again ur that person who’s 1st instinct was to make a call instead of trying to save her poor dog trapped in a crate up there in the danger zone so I’m sure u didn’t notice anything at all🤦‍♀️

I made sure my wife knows how to safely shut off everything in case I’m not home.

This happened to a friend of mine because during a cold freeze, they let the faucets drip instead of actually being a small stream of water. You need to let there be a small stream of cold and hot water when the temperatures are below zero, not just a slight drip. Her ceiling caved in in two bedrooms.

That's terrible but I would go get my poor dog stuck in the terrible crate...People who leave their dogs in a crate while there gone or for long periods of time should go stand in a closet for that amount of time and see how they like it...😡😡😡😡

Why any architect would design a home with the waterheater upstairs or in the attic has never made sense to me. I've personally know two different homeowners that this has happened to and guess what the Policy Writers had to say about it.... smh

This is just awful, my heart goes out to you. I cannot imagine coming home to a mess like this. I was worked with a fella at my job. He was a in the military, and he went on two weeks, active duty, and when he returned home, his whole house had flooded and completely ruined. The sheet rock about halfway up, I’m not sure with saturated, the house was flooded throughout. He was devastated, and a cleanup and repairs took a long time. My feels bad for him.

I had this happen 35 years ago n back then it did 40 thousand damage. I wasnt home n the overhead pipe froze n busted n it happened not long after my husband had suddenly died from pulmonary embolism. we was both 34 n had our first n only child so I had a lot to deal with. I had a great insurance company n a great adjuster n thankfully I had a relative that had a construction company.

turn the water off 😂 get the shop vac out and fans remove all wet sheet rock and insulation . it will take awhile to completely dry out . so do a little at a time no need to use your insurance . your rates will go up or they'll drop you

first off, go shut your water main off and shut off your hot water tank. then fix the plumbing issue. Then get some dehumidifiers running, with some floor fans. wait until the moisture is gone. then asses the damages. call insurance company. Hopefully you have home insurance. and let them do their job. most likely, your insurance will cover the damages. Although it's an inconvenience, try to look at this as an opportunity for improvements on your home.

well instead of worrying about showing everybody you should have went and shut the main water off but everybody's worried about showing everybody what's going on instead of doing what's right and saving your house😂

All toilets I have had had a valve to turn the water off to the toilet. It won't fix the damage as already done but it will stop worse damage. Get a large broom or squeeze and start pushing the already accumulated water out. We have indoor outdoor vans just for that purpose should it arise. Most homeowners insurances will cover damage of this sort. Take videos for proof. My renters insurance always covered my apartment if damage accused and my neighbors apartments if something in my apartment damages theirs. Renter insurance is usually very low.

I left my house for three weeks few years ago. The supply line to my icemaker on the refrigerator came loose and did $8000 worth of damage ceiling carpet you name it. I think it might be a good idea when you leave town in your house, turn your water off at the meter

My sister was staying with us and my boyfriends son came over to watch MTV while we went out. When we got back there was a literal waterfall coming down the stairs and they were playing cards at the coffee table and neither one of them noticed. So fun.
