Yes, People's Republic of Calicommia passed a law (AB 435) starting January 1, 2027, requires children & teens aged 8 to 16 to either pass a 5-step seat-belt fit test or remain in a booster seat. It's not a blanket requirement for all 16-year-olds to use boosters, but a safety standard based on proper seat belt fit rather than just age or height. Key Details of Law (Eff Jan 1, 2027): 5-Step Test: To ride without a booster, a child (up to age 16) must be able to sit with their back against the seat, bend their knees over the edge, have the lap belt across their hips (not stomach), have the shoulder belt across their shoulder (not neck), & stay in that position for the whole ride. Booster Requirement: If the child fails any of these steps, they must continue to use a booster seat or another child restraint. Purpose: Aims to prevent severe injuries from adult seat belts that do not properly fit smaller or younger passengers. Drivers could face fines of up to $490 for non-compliance. 😆😆
