I’ve told countless women at Costco in my area, not to walk away from the cart with their purses. They are shocked and thankful that I reminded them. I’ve seen women in the mall, walking around with their purses open and where someone can reach in and steal their wallets. I stop them and make them aware.
I would have been alerted by how close he was. I don't like my space being invaded.

years ago while shopping this almost happened to me. Had my purse in the cart and was about reach in the freezer section. In my peripheral vision saw this hippy long haired white guy getting closer to my cart and purse! I quickly grabbed my purse and stared at him! He laughed and walked away. From then on, carried my purse on my shoulder with the zipper zipped!! Evil ppl in every race and culture!

Ladies...listen up!!! Never leave your purse open and turn your back while you shop!!! Close it and attach the child restraint to the handles. I have brought attention to total strangers who turned their back to their purse. They usually say they never even thought about how easy it would be for someone to steal from them.
