On 22 January 2023 (often reported around the 23rd) in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, Kimberley Ann Hawkins (41, also referred to as Kim), a homeless drug addict, stole the mobility scooter of Neil Shadwick (63), leaving the severely vulnerable man to die in freezing conditions. What happened Around 2:30 a.m., Hawkins and Shadwick (who had severe Parkinson’s disease, slurred speech, limited mobility, and relied on the scooter and carers) arrived together at a Tesco superstore on Stratford Road. They had been at cashpoints after Hawkins provided sexual services for him. When Shadwick couldn’t withdraw money, Hawkins became frustrated. CCTV captured her jumping onto the scooter (while Shadwick was still partially on it or reaching for the machine), speeding off, and dragging him along the ground for nearly a minute until he let go. She abandoned the scooter later when it ran out of battery and left him stranded in sub-zero temperatures (as low as -4°C to -6°C, with frost and ice on the ground). He crawled back toward the cashpoint area and collapsed. Supermarket staff found him unresponsive around 5:45 a.m. In the ambulance, the only words he managed were “Kim” and “robbed.” He was suffering severe hypothermia, pneumonia, and lung injuries; he died in hospital later that day. Hawkins knew Shadwick well (they had been intimate for months) and was fully aware of his extreme vulnerability—he couldn’t walk properly, communicate easily, had no phone, and had no way to seek help w
