We had a young woman steal a check out of the mailbox and the bank called us. She was well known, had just gotten out of jail for bad checks, and rewrote our check to herself. She's back in jail π

I dropped a check payment into a mailbox near my job site one time. it was just a small dentist payment. It was stolen from the box, the ink erased and used to purchase a TV at Walmart. I notified the police and my bank and Walmart. It seemed there was a Walmart employee that was in on the scam. I got my money back, closed my account, never use outside public mailboxes, and yes, crooks can find a way to rewrite checks.

Yes thieves do have ways to get these checks cashed. This is why you have to check your accounts every 2 days now if you write checks for anything. That way you can put an expensive stop on it.

Wow, Amazon drivers can't be trusted. Stealing family cats, stealing packages and now stealing checks. We have them on camera at our building and someplace is always watching them but this is ridiculous!
