If you just put a lock on it they can't steal it. The ball won't fit into the receiver if the latch is locked down. It's probably a ball broken off a bumper or something else.

if you are somewhere where you really have to worry about it your better off to do this but also chain and lock the shells and axles. Yeah, you can cut that too but most "self aware" people wouldn't leave a trailer somewhere without taking precautions. Atleast I never have.Of course I was the problem at an earlier point in my life.Crime doesent pay.

If there is a lock, theres no need for the ball. They cant connect without lifting the lever, thats locked.
take the Nut off the bottom drop it right down into the hole on your bumper put the nut back on
Why even put the ball inside the hitch. If you lock the top, it would be the same thing wouldn't it? You wouldn't be able to hook it up unless you got the lock off and if you got the lock off, that would pop right off anyway.

I was thinking the same thing. you don't need the ball in there if the thing is locked.
My daddy had stuff made like that in his garage some of it I never figured out what it was for
so then you get a pry bar and a wrench and now you apply force to the bent metal and unscrew the nut from the bottom and then attach the all to your truck and put the nut back on and drive away with new ball and trailer 😁
