I did this in Japan but that was long time ago. I think it was like $3.00 to pick one out of a tank. I think that was around 1960. I still have that pearl that I got and the pearl necklace my mom had made when we were stationed in Japan. Mom's is Akoya Pearls with 14kt gold hook attachment. They are still beautiful.

That's becuz they are cultured pearls. A grain of sand (or similar) is introduced into the oyster. it's NOT a natural.pearl!!!!!😲😲😲😲
