I remember making "Shotgun mines" when I was 10 or 12. I used a block of wood with a hole drilled into it, a 12 gauge bird shot shell, a mouse trap, & fishing line. It worked, but was stupid and dangerous. I think I would have a heart attack if my kids even thought about doing any of the sh!t I did. 🤣

it's because there's no length of 12ga pipe. in reality this video left out a critical detail.
There is no directional force with a cartridge fired outside a barrel. The side will just blow out instead. Needs to be in a tube.
this can work but you'll need a pipe and end cap to contain and direct the blast!

Well, what you could do to fix that is you core a hole for it then you put some rim to make sure that the ammunition stays put. That round will go straight through that hole. Nobody will ever think twice about a hole in some damn wood.

Even if it went off, I don’t see it doing too much damage as it’s a shotgun shell put directly at the lumber so when you would step on it, if it did go off, it would blow through the casing sideways, not through the top as the wood would be sitting on the top and it’s gonna take least resistance number one, and then even ifyou use the metal tube and have to go off somehow that way it would still be right up against the wood and you would have no room to build velocity up. It wouldn’t go through the wood.
when firing a shotgun slug, not even a shotgun will make the pellets come out, because it is a slug. If it were buckshot, then pellets would come out...

That's because most bullets need pressure chambers to have optimal performance
because the casing of the shell was exposed. It also depends where you step, how heavy you are etc....
a toe-popper is placed with a half inch of dirt/sand on top. The goal is not to send pellets all the way up into the torso, but rather to blow off a couple toes taking the soldier out of the fight

put a metal sleeve around that bad boy, and leave about 3 in clear at the end. that should give the blast some direction and a little more concentrated energy. it's just like shooting a .50 cal out of a 12 gauge. the bullet's not going to do much, because of the loss of all the energy going around the slug as opposed to pushing it out.
