This is now 13 years since original digging began in December of 2013 in Seattle Washington for Highway 99 project "Alaskan Highway Project" This TBM named "Bertha" was designed and manufactured in Japan was the largest in the world at the time specifically designed for Alaskan soil geology with a 57-1/2ft Dia.(17.5m) Rotory Cutter was christened and activated Fall 2013 unfortunately was only able to dig approximately 1,000 ft before severe "Overheat" malfunction caused a 2-year Recovery/Repair that involved digging a rescue tunnel from above to get to the equipment below. The date of This Scene of Breakthrough occurred in April 2017 with OPENING Ceremonies exactly 7 year's ago this month for a $3.25 Billion Project Cost replacing the original Elevated Highway Viaduct Structure deemed earthquake vulnerable after Feb. 2001 6.8 Earthquake struck Seattle.
