I used to pick up hitch hikers. I was traveling cross country about 40 years ago and stopped to give a guy a ride. He said that he was headed to the next town to spend the night. When we were about 10 miles out, he pulled a knife. He said don't bother stopping, we're going to Portland. I was driving an older Ford truck, it had a 44 mag. holster mounted to the drivers door by my left leg. I waited a few minutes and looked at him calmly and said, would you like to get out of my truck now, or do you want to wait for me to blow you through that door. He looked at the gun and jumped out at 55mph. I haven't seen him since.
When I was a teenager which was a very long time ago I was waiting for a bus and a man drove by and asked me where I was going and I said downtown. He says he is headed that way if I would like a lift. So I hopped in the car but he was a bad person and started fondling me while driving. At the first red light I jumped out of the car. That situation sure taught me a lesson and never trusted a stranger again.
I have said it seems every time a female is jogging, car stalled, hiking etc. there just happens to be a rapist killer driving by.
it was in the '70s and I was about 17 years old at the time This man pulled over and asked me if I wanted a ride. I looked at him and he was an older gentleman . I thought well he looks okay. So I got in the car with him. I told him where I needed to go. We were close to the street I wanted. So I said, here's where I need to get out. And then he said NO, we're going to keep going! I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. I thought, God what am I going to do? Then I realized I had a bottle of After Shave lotion for my boyfriend in my purse and it was shaped like a revolver. Somehow I Found the courage. I stayed calm. So I pushed it up into the side of my purse, where he could see the outline I told him, I said "I have a gun pointed at your gut! I said I don't mind putting a hole in my purse! Do you mind having the hole in your gut? and he let me out. I was never so scared in my life! I never took rides from anybody after that.
Lol, when I think about back in the 70s when I used to hitchhike 35 miles from my college back to my house, I must’ve been nuts. Never had anything bad happen thank God, but God was watching over me.
When I was about 20 I regularly drove 2 hours to see my boyfriend at Fort Ord Ca. I was tired and sleepy and I picked up a hitchhiker for the first time ever, (male 26-28) thinking he would keep me awake talking ( ok I was very very naive and I felt sorry for him because it was raining and he was out in the middle of nowhere) We did talk and it did keep me awake . I dropped him off at his destination an hour and a half later. Before he took off he thanked me and then read me the riot act that I should never ever pick up a hitchhikers again and explained the dangers. He made me promise. That was many many years ago .
Not in today's world. The odds are great with all these crazy ass people around
I know l have some years on me ,but when l was a teen we hitch hiked every place ,we didn't even think of being killed ,it was a different America then
When I was 30, I think it was. Waiting at a red light in downtown Riverside Ca., mid afternoon. A dude opened my passenger door and yelled. “Go Go Go!” It was so sudden and totally unexpected, I just stared at him for a quick second. Again he yelled for me to go and said he’s “got the money.” I was outraged and I screamed at him as loud as I could. “GET OUT!!” His eyes bugged out as I screamed at him again “GET OUT OF MY TRUCK!!” Without being familiar with my 64 C-10, he pushed the door handle down, which locked it. Without thinking, I reached over, yanked up the handle and pushed it open at the same time. As I raised up, I caught him under the chin and pushed him out head first. All I saw then was him falling upside down onto the street. The door sprang back shut and I immediately locked it. He jumped up, ran away and disappeared into the traffic. True story. Lock your doors. It happened to me. And it can happen to you. Be alert and aware of your surroundings.
Many moons ago I was driving east on I-40 in Arizona west of Phoenix. I saw a black man standing behind his car and the engine hood was open. I thought about it for a second and figured he be there a while because we were in cracker land. I did a U-turn across the median and went back. It was 100 degrees out. He said he had been there for three hours and even the Highway Patrol drove right on by. We went to an autoparts store, got what we needed to get his car going. After he was all set, he gave me his business card. He was at the top of the food chain at the Los Angeles Sheriff Department. He was driving an older car probably because he had higher priorities than having car payments. He was a very nice man. I am sorry that he had to stand in the sun for so long because humanity sucks.
I was going to school-College in Utah in the 70s and I hitchhike several times, but usually with another person. Little did, I know that Ted Bundy was hanging around at that time. The Lord really blessed me to stay safe.
Hitch hiking is illegal in some States.. It should be illegal everywhere.
Best answer ever
I lost a close friend because he was always picking up people walking. we warned him many times. This last time he was murdered, rob and his car taken. case was never solved to our knowledge in Indiana.
I guess the driver was trying to tell him he was a serial killer so the odds of 2 serial killers being in the car would be almost impossible. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My car broke down one night and a guy came driving by and asked if I needed help. I said no, I'm walking right there to a friend's, about 100 or so yards away is where I pointed. So I started walking that way and he suddenly turned around up the road and started back down towards me, but when I saw his brake lights, I figured out what he was doing so before he got turned around, I jumped behind bushes on the side of the road and hid. He drove by slowly looking for me! Scary! 😳
lol‼️ That has to be the wittiest comeback I’ve ever heard😹 Arriving in my hometown for an impromptu visit to my family I see a young (13) beautiful girl hitchhiking on the old road, far from our residence. I immediately pulled up to and she jumps into my car with ‘thank you’ only to see my baby sister looking back at me. She has heard my arguments and pleas to NEVER hitchhike for what feels like the thousandth time. When I pull up to my destination she looks confused and I tell her to get out explaining if you won’t listen to me maybe you’ll listen to them❗️AND march her defiant little butt into the police station. After a proper scare from them: she never hitchhiked again. True story from Sonoma Ca.
I once hitchhiked and got picked up by sister in laws boyfriend she was having an affair with. He asked me my last name which is not common in our city, and asked me if I had a sister named Margo. I said no, I have a sister in law named Margo. She is married to my brother. Karma is a bitch huh?
I feel bad passing people walking in heat or rain but just too dangerous to pick anyone up.
Omg!!😱 really in other words do not take rides from total strangers!!! you can’t do that anymore!!!!!
I lived in a somewhat small town, 50,000. There was a young teen girl who used to hitchikeand a young woman who hitchhiked with a baby. Us women talked about it and made a deal to be the ones to pick them up to be safe. The teen was going to HS about twenty miles away, so we even treated her to a fast food breakfast on our way to taking her to school.
I’m seeing many comments talking about don’t people know better? If you think about though they’re also talking about Long Ago, 40,50 or more years ago things not as bad as they are now, yes there were still some scary people out there but these days you’re really playing Russian roulette with hitchhiking or picking them up
i picked up a well dress lady. she said she lived in this upscale community. i drove her there she refused to get out the car. i drove her straight to police station. she got out i drove off.
That statement would certainly make me jump out of that vehicle rapidly!😲
A couple years ago, my friend and were driving from California to Washington. This average looking guy asked us for a ride a little farther up the coast. He left us so we could discuss what we were going to do. We decided he looked okay, so we gave him a ride. I turned in the seat to keep an eye on him while my friend was driving. All of us were talking and I had my hand on my pepper spray, just in case. When we let him out, he thanked us for the ride, we gave him some cash, and I said, thank you for not killing us. He laughed, we laughed, and thank God everything went okay 😊
🤣🤣🤣 .. 😎
I'll get out at the next stop please.
Oh damn, what the hell 😳😳
I use to hitchhike all the time.. in 1982, My husband and I hitched from Florida to International Falls, Canada.. and then all the way across to Victoria Island, Seattle, down the coast to San Diego. next long trip in 1986 from Laughlin NV ..thru, Zion, Yellowstone, Glacier Park to Jasper Canada and back to Laughlin.. Had lots of fun!! Boy those were good times! Of course I wouldn't do it these days.. Adventure is good for the soul!
At least, back in the day, the driver didn't have control of all four door locks, so you COULD jump out!!!
my sister was offered a ride when her car broke down in Kansas. Guy wouldn't let her out of the car she kept hitting him, he let her out. she was traumatized by it for years.
I've always picked up hitch hiking people. They might kill my body, but the Lord Jesus has my soul. 🙏♥️🙏.!!!.
I told that to a female I picked up. Freaked her out. Stop hitch hiking ladies!!
I hitch hiked all the time when Ted bundy was killing woman. He only lived up the hill from me. I was blessed..I'm still here 🥰 ...
Coming home from elementary school I was carrying a large order of donuts boxed for neighbors for a school campaign. I was struggling a lot. A car with a couple stopped &offered to help about 2 blocks from home I said it’s okay & thank you. I was Leary. My mom said never enter a car w/unkowns. They stayed w/me & that was uncomfortable. After about 2 more asks I said can you take my load. When I got home my Mom was at the door & so was the couple. They were a friend’s A & U. They praised me for how I was taught! I believe I was in 5thgrade. Boy were my arms sore the next day. I’m 77 & grateful for my caution.
Ewww this is sooo scary huh? I have tried to walk places when younger especially I haven't been stopped and asked all the time need a lift or where you going honey but my parents did a good job of telling me to never get into a car with anyone man or woman sad to say but it's true you never know who they might be or do!!!
Ya know it’s sad that someone who is really looking for help can’t trust the other person thies days, I’m a veteran and I like to help others who might need a lift sometime especially a woman because I like to think shivery is not dead or just being kind.
I just want to write I told my residents at an adult care facility I work at this joke, they all laughed! Laughter and humor is a gift from God..we all need to laugh at least once a day every day, it's so good for the body, mind and soul! God is wonderful !
I'm a senior citizen now but when I was 22yrs old I was hitch hiking to the next city for a job interview and a guy stopped in a van ask the usual questions and handed me a job questionnaire, ended up working for him for years but never hitch hiked again.
When I was 20, I was walking up the street at 4 in morning after a fight with my now ex husband. A car stopped, one of 4 guys said get in the car, we’ll give you a ride. Told him I was fine and thanked them for stopping. The guy was like, no, you are going to get in the car with us. Again I said, I’m fine and so is my friend. He started to say something else, when I pulled up my jacket sleeve and showed him my friend, I had my pet boa constrictor wrapped around my arm with it’s head resting in the palm of my hand. That guy screamed, a snake and all the others started screaming and the car sped off, didn’t see anything else of them. A few minutes later a cop stopped and said he was going to take me home, because I couldn’t be on the street at 4 in the morning scarring people with a snake. lol my boa was a baby and less than a foot long.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
he was walking the other way lol😂😂
its a fantastic comeback
😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Back in my early 20s I had my baby on my chest and I was walking home and this white lady asked me did I want a ride and I said sure and I got in her car and she dropped me off. She somehow knew my sister and told my sister that I was hitchhiking with strangers And I told my sister I would have fucked her up baby and all.
